Step-by-step tutorials for UPAS
Tutorial: First Query
This tutorial walks through your first UPAS query from start to finish.
Step 1: Open UPAS
Navigate to the UPAS application URL in your browser. You should see:
- A loading indicator while assets are cached
- A runtime badge showing WebGPU or WASM
- The main query interface
Step 2: Wait for Caching
The first load takes longer as UPAS caches:
- Application shell (~1MB)
- AI model (50MB–2GB depending on configuration)
- Procedure packs (varies by content)
A progress indicator shows download status.
Step 3: Enter Your Query
Type a question in the input field:
What is the triage protocol for mass casualties?Press Enter or click Submit.
Step 4: Review Guidance
UPAS returns:
- Stepwise Actions: Numbered steps to follow
- Context: Relevant background information
- Provenance: Source document and version
Step 5: Verify Offline
To confirm offline capability:
- Enable airplane mode on your device
- Refresh the page
- Submit a new query
The response should return locally without network access.
Tutorial: Checking Provenance
Understanding where guidance comes from is critical in operational contexts.
Step 1: Submit a Query
Enter any procedural question:
How do I set up a water distribution point?Step 2: Locate the Provenance Panel
Below the guidance response, you'll see a collapsible panel labelled "Source".
Step 3: Expand Provenance Details
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Document | Original SOP or checklist title |
| Section | Specific section referenced |
| Version | Procedure pack version |
| Publisher | Authoritative source |
| Date | Publication or effective date |
| Hash | SHA-256 integrity verification |
Step 4: Access Original Document
Click "View Original" to open the source document directly from the cached procedure pack.
Tutorial: Offline Sync
This tutorial covers how UPAS handles updates when connectivity returns.
Step 1: Check Current Version
In the settings menu, view the currently cached pack versions.
Step 2: Connect to Network
When network connectivity is available, UPAS will:
- Check for available updates
- Compare versions with local cache
- Display a notification if updates are available
Step 3: Approve Update
If updates are found:
- Review the changelog summary
- Confirm the update
- Wait for download and verification
Step 4: Verify Integrity
UPAS verifies the SHA-256 hash before applying updates. If verification fails, the update is rejected and the previous version is retained.
UPAS preserves rollback targets. If an update causes issues, you can revert to the previous version.
